In the world of “well that’s something you don’t see everyday”, the United States Composting Council and Keep America Beautiful have announced that they, and five other non-profits and government agencies, have recommended that the color green be used to designate organics collection containers.
The voluntary standard was created to address one of the barriers to effective recycling and organics collection.
Driving this recommendation were these key factors:
- A distinct, consistent color provides visual cues for participants so they can recognize the importance and purpose of the effort;
- A distinct color will differentiate between trash, recycling, and organics recovery; and,
- Consistent messaging across jurisdictions helps minimize confusion.
