The NORTH TEXAS CORPORATE RECYCLING ASSOCIATION™ gR3een Awards!

The purpose of the gR3een Awards is to recognize and honor the outstanding accomplishments of individuals, organizations, communities, schools, and businesses in developing or maintaining programs involving recycling and other sustainability efforts in North Texas.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Any organization, person, government entity, school, or business within the North Texas region that falls into one of the award categories is eligible to submit a gR3een Award application. NTCRA membership is not required; however, if a nominee is a paid member of NTCRA by May 31 of each year, 10 Bonus Points will be applied during the scoring process. Members paying on or after June 1 and before August 1 of each year may be eligible for 5 Bonus Points.

Programs and practices must be carried out between January 1 and December 31 of the prior calendar year. Any results outside of this time-frame will NOT be considered for an award. Duplicate applications from past years will be disqualified. PLEASE NOTE: past award recipients are not eligible to apply for the same award category in consecutive years. Individual awards are lifetime awards.

 

APPLICATION REVIEW | SCORING

The NTCRA will select a committee of industry experts to review and score each application. Judges are instructed to evaluate submissions using the application considerations, criteria listed in each category, and population served. Multiple awards may be issued in each category, or awards may not be issued in each category, pending qualifications of submitted applications. NTCRA gR3een Awards Committee reserves the right to make final decision.

The North Texas Corporate Recycling Association (NTCRA) is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to promote recycling and the use of recycled goods to area businesses and the public sector through leadership, advocacy and education.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  1. Select the appropriate award category, as each nominated program may only be entered in one category.
    • The gR3een Awards Committee reserves the right to reassign a Nomination/Application to a more appropriate category.
  1. A completed Nomination Packet includes:
    • A completed Nomination Form;
    • A narrative addressing the criteria listed in the selected category;
    • NTCRA gR3een Awards Committee may request other support material at a later

  1. Faxed or mailed (hard copy) Nomination Packets WILL NOT be accepted.
  1. Late submissions will be rejected.

1.    Superior Waste Minimization

Who is eligible to apply: Businesses, organizations, schools, universities, government entities with a program operational for a minimum of one year and can demonstrate significant accomplishments in minimizing waste.

Evaluation System:

          • Continuous education and awareness 10 points
          • Waste Reduction & Green purchasing 20 points
          • Program Goals & Policies 20 points
          • Significant Accomplishments/Impacts 20 points
          • Innovative/Unique Aspects 20 points
          • Measurability (participation or recycle rate, increased tonnage, etc.) 10 points

 

2.    Excellence in Material Recovery 

Who is eligible to apply: Businesses, organizations, schools, universities, and government entities with a reuse/recycling program for a minimum of one year with significant material recovery accomplishments. Applicants should have exemplary waste conscious procurement goals that reflect environmentally responsible practices.

Evaluation System:

          • Innovative/unique aspects/types of materials collected 10 points
          • Measurable Accomplishments 20 points
          • Certification and/or Goals Achieved 10 points
          • Employee/Customer Education 20 points
          • Significant Accomplishments & Impact 20 points
          • Waste Conscious or End Result (downstream) 20 points
 

3.    gReen Thumb

Who  is  eligible  to  apply:  Any  North Texas business, organization, school, university, or government entity that  has  incorporated  an outdoor green space or composting program into their environmental and sustainability plan.

Evaluation System:

          • Sustainability of Site/Program Related Principles 20 Points
          • Measureable Results 20 Points
          • Positive Impacts of the Site/Program 15 Points
          • Recycled Products Used 15 Points
          • Durability of the program 10 Points
          • Education Efforts 20 Points
 

4.    Excellence in Environmental Education and Outreach 

Who is eligible to apply: Businesses, organizations, schools, universities, and government entities with a program operational for a minimum of one year.

Evaluation System:

 

          • Comprehensive Education/Awareness 20 points
          • Program Elements 20 points
          • Innovative/Unique Aspects 20 points
          • Demonstrated Increased Awareness 20 points
          • Number Reached 20 points

 

5.    Best Recycling Partnership

Who is eligible to apply: Businesses, organizations, schools, universities, and government agencies with a partnership between two distinct entities for at least one year.

Evaluation System:

          • Partnership longevity 10 points
          • Integrated Waste Reduction & Recycling Programs 20 points
          • Partnership Goals & Innovation/Unique aspects 20 points
          • Significant Accomplishments & Impact 20 points
          • Continuous Education & Awareness 20 points
          • Recycled Materials Collected 10 points
 

6.    Recycler of the Year Award

Who is eligible to apply: Any individual who has personally demonstrated superior volunteer work in the North Texas Community that promotes and perpetuates recycling and sustainability.

Program, event or project resulting in waste reduction or recycling; significant accomplishments and how accomplishments impacted others; demonstrates ability to take initiative, lead, think creatively and work effectively with a others; shares his/her experience with others.

Evaluation System:

          • Measurable Volunteer Efforts 10 points
          • Environmental Impact of Efforts 20 points
          • Long-Term Volunteer Efforts 20 points
          • Comprehensive Knowledge 20 points
          • Initiative / Leadership 20 points
          • Vision and Forward Thinking 10 points                                    
 

7.    gReen Achievement

Who is eligible to apply: Businesses, organizations, schools, universities, government entities with a program operational for a minimum of one year. Applicants will demonstrate innovative/unique aspects in their sustainability program, its goals, policies and continuous education/outreach. Recycling program should go above and beyond, i.e. include other initiatives that promote sustainability leadership.

Evaluation System:

          • Practice Green Purchasing 10 points
          • Significant, measurable Results 20 points
          • Waste Minimization 20 points
          • Energy Conscious Program 10 points
          • Integrated Waste Reduction & Recycling Programs 10 points
          • Employee/Customer Education 20 points
          • Water Conservation Initiatives 10 points
 

8.    Innovative Recycling Special Event

Who is eligible to apply: Any North Texas business, organization, school, or government entity that organizes an event(s) that is held limited times each year with significant accomplishments and demonstrates how those accomplishments impacted others.

Evaluation System:

          • Measurable metrics, e. yards or weight 10 points
          • Public/Education Component 20 points
          • Volunteer Contribution 20 points
          • Partnership Involvement 20 points
          • Innovative/Unique Aspects 20 points
          • Number of people Reached 10 points

 

9.    gReen Elected Official

 Who is eligible to apply: An elected official at any government level in North Texas whose actions in office have significantly contributed to waste minimization and recycling. Details of the individual’s accomplishments which highlight and support waste reduction, materials reuse, and/or recycling must be included.

If your nominee is an elected official who has championed for recycling or advocated for change or legislation which positively impacts waste minimization or the recycling industry, apply in this category.

          • Creative Environmental Efforts 20 points
          • Measurable Efforts 20 points
          • Long-Term Volunteer Efforts 20 points
          • Comprehensive Knowledge 20 points
          • Forward Thinking | Vision 20 points

 

10.    gReen Media

Who is eligible to apply: Any individual or media outlet that has worked to cover recycling stories and/or promote or spotlight waste minimization programs/practices (or educate the public on material waste) and the impact the programs/practices have had on a business, community or industry in North Texas. Nomination should include the size of the audience, target population, impact (number of e-mail responses or call-ins or comments to network, magazine, blog, etc.) A detailed description of at least one media outreach activity, event, story, must be included.

If your nominee has delivered a memorable story highlighting the benefit of waste reduction, materials reuse or recycling, or conversely has exposed material waste to advocate change, apply in this category.

Evaluation System:

          • Spotlights regional waste minimization programs/practices 20 points
          • Implements Waste Reduction/Reuse/Recycling at Work 10 points
          • Promotes/Covers Green Purchasing Initiatives 10 points
          • Integrated Waste Reduction & Recycling Programs 20 points
          • Public Education Programming 20 points
          • Impact/Measurable Results 20 points

In your narrative, be sure to address all of the following questions in your own words to describe the project or program and how it exemplifies the award for which you are nominating it.

1. Describe the project in detail, and how it is a great example of the award category entered.

What is the purpose and/or problem the project or program was created to address? Where is the project located? What are the project goals, and how do they incorporate the concept of REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE? When did the project begin or when did the event happen; is it on-going? Who is the target audience or participants? How does it exemplify the award category it is entered in?

 
2. What kinds of cooperation, communication, and education efforts were used in this project?

Describe the involvement and cooperation between employees, departments, customers, or between businesses or organizations used to develop the program. Describe the ways in which target participants were informed about the rules, reasons, or ways to participate. Did you use behavior changing techniques to improve participation?

 
3. How is progress tracked?

Describe measurable results by including data such as before and after collection weights, costs reduced, number of people participating, number of people educated, materials reduced or reused, or other measures of success pertinent to your project or program.

 
4.How does your project or program result in sustainable efforts to REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE in your business, community, or institution?

What kind of results did you achieve and how will positive results be sustainable into the future? Does this program move your organization toward zero waste, incorporate product stewardship principles, green purchasing, or other permanent, positive changes?

You may insert electronic pictures, graphs, charts, articles, examples of marketing, or any applicable visual representations to support your application and show the effectiveness of your program. DO NOT ATTACH EXTRA FILES. All electronic files must be within one award application document.


2018 Application Considerations

For the 2018 gR3een Awards, nominated programs and practices must be carried out between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017.
